Motivated by Gratitude

Refugee Families in Lebanon

The war is awful, but HOPE is more powerful and joyful and helps to overcome all the sorrows and suffering.

Families are living in tents made of wood, nylon, and cartons. Life is very hard in these uncomfortable conditions, very hot in summer and cold in winter. After eight years of war, nothing has changed.

Helping Dreams Be Realised

Goat Loan Programme, Jordan

In Al Mufradat, Maliha's 16-year-old daughter, Rahma, has learning difficulties and there is not a school that will accept her. She doesn’t know how to read or speak properly, and she needs special attention. GHNI helped by providing a special teacher to teach her. Rahma has a dream to be a doctor one day and we can't wait to see her achieve that dream of hers. She has such a pure heart and wants to help many.

Overcoming Horror and Regaining Hope

Vocational Training Programme, Jordan

Um *Aliye is an Iraqi refugee from Qaraqosh village. She left her village when a violent group attacked Mosul and the surrounding villages. She moved to Erbil with her family and since they didn’t have a place to stay, they stayed at a community centre for a couple months. They had to share the same hall and bathroom with thousands of people. The situation was miserable.

Gathering Around the Globe

The power of sharing a meal together is universal. All around the world, families and friends gather around the table to reconnect and be nourished. This autumn, take a moment for peace and gratitude shared with loved ones.

Before the busy Christmas season kicks into full gear, be sure to pause and take time to focus on the things that matter most. To truly connect this autumn, we all need to put down our devices and focus our gatherings on the people seated right at our own tables.

Help for the Wounded

Refugees in Lebanon

This month, GHNI-Lebanon had the privilege of decreasing the suffering in one of the hundreds of camps. This time, we had a special case to take care of. Abed was wounded two years ago when a missile exploded in his home. Being in another part of the house, he was lucky to survive, being slightly wounded as shrapnel hit his face.

Overcome Obstacles

Yazidi IDPs, Lebanon/Iraq

September 9 Log

I am leaving for Lebanon and Northern Iraq today. These families have been victims of extreme and unspeakable violence, forced to live for years in harsh and impoverished conditions in tents, tarp homes, old abandoned factories, and the like. They have lost homes, farms, businesses and, beyond material things, they suffer the loss of family and friends who were taken or killed.
