The Village

Out of the rubble of the 2008 earthquake in the Sichuan province (of China), we have transitioned from relief to development with our latest cluster of villages. Much of the local commerce evaporated when the nearby city was closed and turned into a memorial where 16,000 of the 88,000 people died in the May 12th earthquake.

After six years the Sichuan people are still struggling to find hope for income revitalization despite the amazing reconstruction and rehabilitation work done by the government. In addition, the quality of health services needs a lot of improvement in these communities.

Transformational Community Development©

Villagers began this project with a focus on the TCD areas of wellness and income generation, which will move individuals and villages toward self-sustainability. Our vision is to help alleviate poverty by partnering with villagers in a self-sustainable program in which the health and wellness needs of the community will be met, giving them more time to focus on income generating activities. A successful project in these first villages will help us expand effectively to more isolated villages where there are significant development needs.

This project was launched in the summer of 2014 with some strategic goals:

  • Meet immediate health needs which are vital to villagers’ ability to increase income
  • Develop self-sustainability by identifying and training potential local individuals to meet each village’s health needs
  • Provide a progressive training program, from basic information to more advanced
  • Mobilize local health professionals from nearby cities to participate and contribute to training the villagers
  • Train village champions in basic professional health skills, such as dental care, which will allow them to generate income
