Giving Tuesday Unofficial Results

On behalf of all of GHNI's staff, volunteers, villagers, and partners, we would like to sincerely thank you for all you did to support us on Giving Tuesday this year!

Whether you were a donor, advocate, or social networker, you played a key role in our Giving Tuesday success. The numbers are still being finalized, but here's a summary of what we know so far.

Making Dream Jobs Attainable

Sewing Center

The sewing center is providing the best skills training to women, enabling them to make a difference in the community as they help their families. We are on the track to empower the women to live better lives.

Utilizing the Micro Loan Program

I have been following up with villagers by teaching lessons on health, hygiene, and disease prevention to the children and women’s group. I was greatly encouraged when the community told me that our Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons are so powerful for their community development.

The first group that participated in the micro loan program has benefited much from the small fund that we supported. The first group paid back their loan and then it was loaned to the next group. More community people are interested in participating in the micro loan program.

Ladies Develop Their Skills

The ladies’ involvement in GHNI’s Transformational Community Development (TCD) program is really benefiting their families. They are learning to read and write, as well as showing their interest in developing skills to start ventures to support their families and children. The micro loan program, which helped them farm tomatoes, is encouraging them to open micro shops. What a great encouragement for us to see them using their skills, starting small businesses, growing vegetables, and saving money on food for their families.

Overcoming Horror and Regaining Hope

*Aliye is an Iraqi refugee from Qaraqosh village. She left her village when a violent group attacked Mosul and the surrounding villages. She moved to Erbil with her family and since they didn’t have a place to stay, they stayed at a community center for a couple months. They had to share the same hall and bathroom with thousands of people. The situation was miserable.

Helping Dreams Be Realized

In Al Mufradat, Maliha's 16-year-old daughter, Rahma, has learning difficulties and there is not a school that will accept her. She doesn’t know how to read or speak properly, and she needs special attention. GHNI helped by providing a special teacher to teach her. Rahma has a dream to be a doctor one day and we can't wait to see her achieve that dream of hers. She has such a pure heart and wants to help many.

Blooming Onion Business

Chalise and Gelgelo are husband and wife, who have three children. Gegelo was in the military, but because he was not healthy, he left the military, returned to his village, and married his wife, Chalise. After he came back, he was earning a very small income from the government, which was not enough money to run his family. The children were growing and so were their needs, so they found a solution in joining the Transformational Community Development (TCD) group. Before they joined, they had watched their friends progress, and this inspired them a lot, too.

Giving Tuesday is Today!

The day we've been waiting for has finally arrived! Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity to become a more committed supporter of GHNI. As a reminder, there are 3 easy ways you can join in the movement today and help villagers end their extreme poverty:

1. Give

Every gift makes a big impact! For example, did you know just $10 can provide gardening equipment for a family to grow their own food? Or that just $25 can provide a pair of chickens?

Why Should You Participate in Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday started in 2012 as a response to consumerism after Thanksgiving, specifically Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It started small, but each year, more and more organizations and donors have participated worldwide.

What Is Giving Tuesday?

If you have been waiting for the right time to make a gift to GHNI, we’d like to invite you to join us for Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a national initiative to encourage people to include donations to nonprofit organizations among their holiday gifts.
