Microbusinesses Are Blooming

A snack shop on wheels as a microbusiness.

This month I taught community members about safety during natural disasters like landslides, floods, high winds, and earthquakes. Through the Transformational Community Development (TCD) lesson on crisis management, I was able to encourage them. They need to be prepared and keep their important things ready so that it is easier for them to run to a safe place. They found this teaching to be useful. In the previous month, when the flood came, many people had to flee for a safe place. I helped some affected families clean their houses after the flood. The TCD team, with the help of a local community, helped distribute rice to those who had no food during and after the flooding.

I also taught Chainpur Village members how to start microbusinesses. Community members are learning and trying to raise their family’s income sources. Microshop businesses, like a local food cafe, are very easy to start and provide a good income. This is why I taught them to become involved in income-generating activities. This month, one woman started a microshop, and we cheered for the success of her business. On her opening day, she earned a good income and was very encouraged. At that time, I spoke to other villagers about the different kinds of low-cost income opportunities they could start, which would increase their income sources.

The TCD team helped with Water management in the community. Because of flooding, local water sources were destroyed, and for some days there was no water supply in the community. We gathered community members and went to the water source to repair and clean it. Later, water was again available in the community. I also taught the villagers they needed to boil water before drinking it. I visited houses in the community and encouraged them to follow the TCD teaching.

Dabeet’s* Story

“My name is Dabeet. I live with my wife and two children in Ramantar Village. I used to work as a labourer, and it was very hard to manage my family’s expenses. My income was low, and if I did not work, then there would be no food for my family. There was no family income source besides my work. We never had good food, clothes, or medical treatment. I learned many ideas for increasing family income sources after joining TCD. GHNI provided seed money, and I bought two goats. As a goat keeper, I have increased my income source. Now I can manage my family’s expenses. My family members are happy and supportive of my business.”
