Iraqi Stories

*Adani is an Assyrian-Iraqi married man from Tilisqof, Iraq, who used to work as an electrician in Iraq. They have been in Jordan for three years, and the situation is hard. They are not able to work and pay for their daily life expenses. Adani’s 25-year-old daughter is an artist who paints oil paintings. We had lunch with them, and it was very delicious.

Mushroom Training is Full of Promise

Kharibari Village, India

We presented training on mushroom farming as part of our Income Generation Programme last month in the Damdim Cluster. The programme was attended by approximately 15 community leaders and their associates. We ran a follow up meeting in October to provide additional information about the needs of mushrooms once they start to grow. This was a new experience for most community leaders as they had never had such training before.

Potato Program a Boon for Village

Jatapara Village, India

Twenty years ago, people used to grow vegetables on their own for family consumption, but the current generation hardly seems to do this anymore. This year, we decided to cultivate potatoes on a large scale. People were not prepared to do this, but we spoke with them and convinced them that if we grow potatoes together, then together we can succeed.

Ethiopian Family Benefits from TCD

Harowayo Village, Ethiopia

Legesse is one of the Transformational Community Development (TCD) members in Harowayo Village. During the last four years, he was working hard to change his life. A few years back when we reported about this village, Legesse’s testimony was one of them. In that story, he was moving from place to place to look for jobs. This was not a good situation because he was separated from his family for several months at a time.

Localising Income Opportunties

Kharibari Village, India

In Khairbari Paschim Dhura Village, there is not a single grocery shop, and people have to go 1 km away to get even a minor thing like a match box. For a long time, I have longed to see a shop in the village itself run by the local Khairbari people, but they were very skeptical to start one. I was constantly pursuing the women of Khairbari to start a shop, but they wouldn’t listen.

Women Learn Language and Life Skills

Women’s Empowerment Centres, Afghanistan

The English class students are getting better, month after month. I am personally working to download contemporary English lessons, audio and videos, because our students do not have access to the internet. I am equipping the trainer by giving her about 30GB worth of English contemporary materials to teach the students more effectively.
