Exploring Possibilities

Mawa, Indonesia

Mawa has been difficult to access during the COVID-19 pandemic. The most encouraging aspect has been that the Water project was completed during this quarter. We would like to follow that up with future lessons on hygiene and working with the committee to look for solutions in terms of utilising the new water source for improving nutrition through agriculture – something that wasn’t an option prior to the availability of water.

On Boars and Orchards

Jatapara Village, India

In the month of June, villagers here cultivate corn. By the time the crops are ready to harvest, wild boar destroy these crops, causing huge losses for the farmers. So this year we suggested that farmers try cultivating pigeon peas (arhar/toor) instead of corn. As the boars do not destroy these crops, there is a reduced risk of loss.

Water Improvements a Boon

Kiwanjani Village, Kenya

Kiwanjani is our seventh village in which GHNI has started the project of transformation. The villagers of Kiwanjani are a mix of tribes; the village is more like a rural-urban setup where the rich and the poor live in the same area due to immigration from urban areas to rural ones.

Perseverance Finally Leads to Success

Mawa, Indonesia

Ajij* has been a key figure in the Transformational Community Development (TCD) Water Committee since the beginning of the ambitious water project that commenced in 2019 in Mawa Village. Ajij worked with the GHNI training team and his fellow community members until, against all odds, they finally succeeded at bringing fresh water into Mawa Village after decades of difficulty.
