3 Ways Men Can Support International Women's Day
Posted March 2, 2019
This Friday, March 8, is recognized as International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day was first recognized by the United Nations in 1975, and it has been celebrated annually ever since.
Internationalwomensday.com describes the goal of this day as “celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.”
Many women find no difficulty supporting International Women’s Day because of their personal connection, but what about men? Sometimes men are unsure how to get involved, although they might fully support equal opportunities for women and men.
If that’s you, we’re here to help!
Here are 3 simple ways you can show women in your life that you are on their team during International Women’s Day:
1. Become a digital advocate. Share a post on your social media channels to show your support for International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is #BalanceForBetter. Be sure to make your post public and include that hashtag so everyone can see your post and be aware of your support.
2. Ask them to share their stories. Women close to you will appreciate an invitation to tell you about the challenges they have experienced, and how they overcame them. By expanding your awareness of these types of issues, you’ll be better equipped to become an agent for social change.
3. Make a gift in their honor. By donating to GHNI’s women’s empowerment centers in Afghanistan or Kenya, you can make a huge impact in the lives of women who are trying to break the cycle of extreme poverty for themselves and their families. A globally-minded woman in your life will appreciate your thoughtfulness in empowering and lifting up a sister on the other side of the world!
