COVID-19 training

Currently, the whole world is in the grips of the greatest biological crisis that has faced mankind in more than a century.  Almost 4 weeks ago when it was only a blip on most people’s radars, we sounded the alarm and rallied the troops.  This included establishing a Global Crisis Management Team and sending our staff far and wide with the important message of how to identify the Corona Virus and prevent the spread of this deadly disease.

Heavy Snowfalls Limit Garden Activities

It’s been a cold winter in Kabul with lots of snow! We haven’t had any exhibitions at the Garden of Peace and Hope for the past month or so due to the snow. The gardener and I have been working to protect flowers from the snowy weather by covering them with plastic. There is still snow inside the Garden.

Now They Can Count, Read, and Write!

Women’s Empowerment Centre, Afghanistan

 

Literacy courses concluded at our Women Empowerment Centre (WEC). Forty women learnt how to read and write in Farsi, and they also learnt some mathematics. A little more than a year ago most of these women had difficulties even counting money.

Learners Who Became Teachers

Latifah and Rihanna have attended our English and Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons since we started the first Women’s Empowerment Centre (WEC) in June 2018. In addition to their regular school, these girls and boys have learnt English extremely well in a very short amount of time, even better than expected.

Warmth Fuels Women’s Ability to Learn

Women’s Empowerment Centre--East, Afghanistan

 

The Women’s Empowerment Centre in Bamyan Village’s east district is going well. The English students who are from the upper village finished their final exams and are now on a 10 day break. They finished their English books called Let’s Go Introductory Level, so we bought 20 Let’s Go Level 1 for them. Recently, the boys also expressed an interest in joining the class, as well.
