Honesty Still the Best Policy

Every week, a Transformational Community Development (TCD) lesson is taught to the women. Notice is taken of the needs of these women and then the lesson is chosen that is most appropriate for their needs. One example occurred this month on the topic of honesty.

Dreams. Wishes. Reflections.

Approaching the end of 2021, a celebration event was held for the children's classes with many children participating and sharing what they had learnt. Time was given for the children to share their personal dreams and wishes for the New Year 2022.

Small Steps on a Long Journey

Upper Egypt Village Cluster, Egypt

 

Mina Magdy is a young boy from the village of Shusha. He is the third child among four brothers in his family. Mina always felt inferior, avoided others, had few friends and would not come to the Children's Development group. His academic achievement at school was very poor. He preferred and enjoyed watching horror movies or wrestling matches. He was both an introverted and aggressive boy.

Community Encouraged to Stay the Course

Ngassa, Cameroon

 

Dr Corghan, a Transformational Community Development (TCD) partner, engaged a few Ngassa locals who have been nominated to serve in various TCD committees. The meeting was held in the Yoldeo quarters of Ngassa. Dr Corghan encouraged them to take their participation very seriously and stressed the many benefits TCD activities can have on the community.

A Silver Lining in the Slum

Kibera Slum, Kenya

 

The Kibera slum in Kenya is a vast slum with many different tribes inhabiting the area. It’s an urban slum with over 30,000 households. It highlights a poverty where everybody survives on less than a dollar a day. Despite many ongoing challenges, we have been able to impact the lives of the Halakhu Women’s Group.

Goats on the Go!

Attir Village, Kenya

 

Since GHNI entered the Attir Village community, great and steady improvement has been visible. GHNI has continually endeavoured to change the way people should think about providing the basics of food and water for their community. Their vision of earning income has been expanded beyond solely livestock. Other venues have been wisely introduced.

Buttons and a Baby!

Isiolo Empowerment Centre, Kenya

 

The GHNI Empowerment Center in Isiolo is a polytechnic school that specialises in the training of young women and men in various skills such as beauty and hairdressing, tailoring and dressmaking, and food and beverage. Students who graduate from the school are able to stand on their own two feet and start a business with the skills they learnt from the school.
