Ali Agriculture Continues to Thrive

Valley of Ali*, Afghanistan

Despite COVID-19, we distributed 30,400 poplar cuttings to about 45 farmers. We also gave vegetable seeds to nearly 200 families in 2020, and we hope to share more in the spring.

Recently, a man from the Ministry of Agriculture in Bamyan visited the poplars, and he was impressed with the project. We showed all the cutting documents that we received from the farmers, and he said the work that we do is “amazing”!  Meanwhile, he asked for cuttings to distribute to farmers in two districts in Yakawlang.

We also have reproducible strawberries. So far, some farmers have asked for the plants. The plan is to distribute some of them this spring and build friendships.

Transformational Community Development (TCD) Update

  • Food – This year, we had different vegetables in the kitchen garden. Many people visited and learnt how and when to plant vegetables for themselves.

  • Education – Every farmer who receives hybrid poplar cuttings also gets training on how to plant cuttings. We also give them written instructions to learn techniques regarding the kitchen gardens and more on tending the poplars.

Thank you!
