Asal, A Young Woman Who Inspires!

Women’s Empowerment Centre–East, Afghanistan

Asal* is a 15-year-old girl who lives far away from the Women's Empowerment Centre--East (WEC2). Every day, she wakes up early so that she can get to English and Transformational Community Development (TCD) classes. She is a hard-working girl, helping her elderly parents.

She is a student that is rarely absent from class compared to other classmates. She wishes to speak English well when she enters the university.

After finishing classes, Asal walks two hours to get back to her home, then takes care of the animals. While in the field, she is listening to English talks and songs. Because of her hard work and motivation, I expect Asal to be successful at whatever she does!

TCD Update

  • Education – Some of the girls who come to English class are from very remote villages. They walk more than one hour to get to WEC2. They are passionate about learning English five days a week and TCD lessons once a week.

  • Wellness – Many of the girls play football and volleyball in the schoolyard. They benefit from the exercise and enjoy these activities when they have time.

Thank you!
