Overcoming Obstacles

This quarter in Dhoker Jhara Village, we learned a few more techniques for farming. This season, we didn’t get enough rainfall in time. Because of less rainfall, crops didn’t get enough water and we didn’t get satisfying results for harvesting.

A Taste of Success

The Sendana Key Farmers Committee, along with members of the village government, had the once in a lifetime opportunity to embark on a trip with the Transformational Community Development (TCD) training team to visit their main buyer of cocoa beans in Bali —Gelato Secrets.  Aside from being an amazing motivational experience for the farmers, the main goal of the training team in organizing this trip was to solidify a direct sustainable relationship between the committee and the buyer, no longer requiring any sustained involvement from outside parties.

Giving Tuesday is Today!

The day we've been waiting for has finally arrived! Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity to become a more committed supporter of GHNI. As a reminder, there are 3 easy ways you can join in the movement today and help villagers end their extreme poverty:

1. Give

Every gift makes a big impact! For example, did you know just $10 can provide gardening equipment for a family to grow their own food? Or that just $25 can provide a pair of chickens?

Timothy's Inspirational Story

“I am Timothy, a member of the Lotus Transformational Community Development (TCD) group in Champion Village. In school, I am in the seventh grade. We have five members in our family, as I have a brother and sisters. We do not have land for vegetable cultivation, so my parents are working on a small job in this village. Before my family joined the Lotus TCD group, we were very poor. Every day, I saw my parents do a lot of quarrelling. But after the TCD teaching, my parents’ attitude changed, and we are having peace in my family.

Identifying Educational Needs

I visited the Women’s Empowerment Center (WEC) in Azhdar this week. It was cold, and I saw some snowfall in Bamyan. Within three days, I had different meetings with local people, our staff, and the students. The students are coming daily, but, unfortunately, some of the students left the class because their parents declined to give them the 250 AFN (about $3) needed for the starter book.

Additionally, the students are concerned about early coldness this year. When they enter the center at 3:30, it’s not sunny so some of them feel cold.

Changing Seasons

Autumn has arrived here in the Garden of Peace and Hope. The garden still looks green in autumn with beautiful roses. Although we had some problems, like having no water for almost two weeks due to a water pump problem, we have found some solutions.

Why Should You Participate in Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday started in 2012 as a response to consumerism after Thanksgiving, specifically Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It started small, but each year, more and more organizations and donors have participated worldwide.

Giving Tuesday is huge for Global Hope Network International. In 2017, donors gave nearly $16,000 to support GHNI’s greatest need. That’s enough money to support an entire Transformational Community Development (TCD) village for a full year!

What Is Giving Tuesday?

If you have been waiting for the right time to make a gift to GHNI, we’d like to invite you to join us for Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a national initiative to encourage people to include donations to nonprofit organizations among their holiday gifts.
