Contending with COVID-19 Challenges

Kharibari Village, India

Complete lockdown in Kharibari since the COVID-19 crisis began has caused our villagers to face big challenges! These include unemployment and the shutting down of their businesses.  The daily labour of masons, carpenters, brick workers, and other daily jobs have completely stopped. They have been hit hard. Some villagers went to other villages to find work, only to find none due to the lockdown. They returned home. Now they have very little to do and are largely dependent on government rationing.

Meanwhile, I translated the GHNI COVID-19 prevention lesson and distributed it to leaders in Khairbari and the Damdim Cluster.  With the help of the community, we distributed some essential items and food to the villagers including dal, cooking oil, dry beans, soya beans, hand washing soaps, and salts. I hope this will sustain them for at least a few weeks.

Thank you,
