Cooking up a Brighter Future

Gem Village, Kenya

As to achieve its vision, GHNI is reaching out to the poor, hidden and hurting villagers within the communities. The five areas of Transformational Community Development (TCD) are used as tools for transformation. Income is majorly increased through offering soft loans to desperate families, since there is no farming in this area and villagers are dying of hunger due to lack of food. GHNI teaches them how to work and provide for themselves and does not provide handouts. Hence, TCD coaching has opened the mind for many and uplifted many from the bondage of poverty.

Mama Leperan is a mother who was neglected by all her neighbours. Her family consists of three grandchildren who were left orphaned after their mother passed away, and she has no husband or her own children. GHNI came into this village and rescued her. Mama Leperan managed to be the beneficiary of the soft loan and her life changed since. She earns her income from the camel intestine soup business she sells in her village. The business brings her a remarkable profit since people used to go to town for the soup, but now they buy it right in their home area. Mama Leperan is now providing for her grandchildren, easily, without much struggle. She is so grateful for the support from GHNI that positively changed her life.

Thank you!
