Crops Prove Market Success

Dhoker Jhara Village, India

We have been trying for a long time to convince villagers to grow vegetables for their own nutrition as well as to sell. It has been very hard to convince them, even if it is for their own profit. So we targeted those individuals who are interested and excited to do so. One of them is Debdhon. He grew bitter gourd (Balsam pear) and corn. He sold these at the market and made almost 10-12 thousand rupees (about $150-$200). We are trying hard to encourage other villagers to take initiative in cultivating crops with us here to help them.

Some trainers from the government are supposed to come to give training on goat farming to villagers in the nearby city of Dumka. Somehow they are delayed, so this month, we plan to give them training on goat farming ourselves.
