Cyclone hits Mozambique
Posted March 26, 2019
The situation is very, very bad. People are still trapped on treetops and rooftops since Friday last week, (March 15th), hungry and thirsty waiting to be rescued. Those who have been rescued are in desperate need of food and shelter..a place to sleep. They are so many that the institutions do not have the capacity to host and care for them all.
There are no restrooms, no baths and it is difficult to prevent the spread of disease. Many, especially children have diarrhea and malaria. Those in their own homes have no roofs over their heads and no food. The floor is wet, there are no blankets because of all of the water or in some cases, everything is lost. Crime is on the rise as people are desperate for food and water. Some are invading homes, shops, businesses, and warehouses in the search of food. Basic necessities are not available.
At this search and rescue phase, food, drinking water, clothes, blankets, medications and indeed the basic necessities etc are urgently needed. More Medical doctors are needed to work with their local counterparts. When the water has dried, There will be a need to rebuild houses and churches washed away by the flood. So construction materials and teams will be needed.
