Dedicated to Diversification

Tuka Village, Ethiopia

I introduced you to Tuno in a recent update a few months ago. I want to say more about this person. Tuno is a very strong person and he is working hard every time. He is closely working with the Transformational Community Development (TCD) workers and asking different questions.

Tuno is very eager to implement the knowledge he learns from them. He is very active to implement new ideas. Besides farming avocado, mango, and papaya, he has 18 bee boxes (hives). Tuno keeps bees because they are producing honey. In December, he made 12,000 Birr (about $600).

Since Tuno started implementing new ideas, other villagers have started bee production. This is very encouraging to the villagers. After they got this knowledge, they started diversifying their activities. This kind of experience was not familiar in this area before, because previously they were engaged mostly with raising animals. If a drought occurred, they lost all of their cattle. Now their lives are better since they started diversifying all of their activities.
