From Dependence to Independence

Goat Loan Programme, Jordan

Um Battma village

We started our project with Um Salem three years ago in Um Battma Village. Today, she has 31 goats. Some of the goats will remain with Um Salem and the rest will be returned to GHNI to be shared with a new host family. Sixteen goats are pregnant, and within three months twenty kids are expected. Um Salem is selling the goat products like milk, yogurt, butter, and cheese, which bring her a monthly income of about 120 to 150 Jordanian dinars. Selling goat products will help her to cover the daily expenses for her family.

Um Salem was a poor woman dependent on people to help her. Now she has become a productive woman who markets her products from the Goat Loan Programme and realises an actual income for the family. Her husband is disabled and cannot provide himself for his family.

Thank you,
