Desiring to Help Themselves

Thar Yar Kung Village, Myanmar

Due to the nature of our work in the field, it's not always possible to provide a high quality photo. We're happy to provide a current visual of our work despite the quality.

During this recent quarter GHNI staff practically applied TCD lessons, which really motivated the village women to come to love and help themselves using sustainable development. Basically, three group meetings and several home visits had been done. Moreover, some selected TCD health lessons were taught where TCD concepts were shared and discussed with the women. As a result, we could notice that the women’s attitude towards development had been changed.

Now, when we visit the village, it sounds like they expect to gain knowledge or strategies from us on how to develop their living, instead of expecting what we can do for them as they always did. We believe that this is a big inward transformation that will lead them to help themselves.

Further, they showed their interest on our TCD program by multiplying the number of women every time we have group meetings together. In the beginning, there were only four women who came to the group discussion. However, the second meeting was done with six women, and the third and the fourth meetings were completed well with the participants of eight women.

They were not always the same women who came to the discussion. There were newcomers, whereas some former participants couldn't join. After having a conversation with the newcomers, we came to know that they were informed and invited by the former participants. This means there is a movement within the village. Moreover, most of the lessons were done the second time by the former participants. Therefore, we hope we will be able to transform lives and help solve some problems within this village by continuing our women-based development program.
