Overcoming Obstacles

This quarter in Dhoker Jhara Village, we learned a few more techniques for farming. This season, we didn’t get enough rainfall in time. Because of less rainfall, crops didn’t get enough water and we didn’t get satisfying results for harvesting.

Increasing Income Opportunities

In the month of August, a man named *Manvay said he would challenge himself to earn more than 1,500 rupees per month (about $210). So, he built a saloon (barber shop) beside the road. During the month of July, after he finished with his field work, he started concentrating on his saloon. He will run it full time after he makes his saloon look good.

Change is Essential

Dhoker Jhara Village, India

We as a community are doing well. We were facing issues related to whether the seeds we sowed were good. Villagers are still using the same methods they were taught from their ancestors, so they were not getting the best result. This led to lack of proper harvesting. Half of the seeds didn’t even grow after lots of hard work, so now change is essential. So this time, villagers were taught to use the good seeds.

A Special School Filled with Joy

Dhoker Jhara Village, India

This quarter, we focused on health awareness and encouraged villagers to return their children to school. Before, villagers were not sending their children to school because of school fees. Now they have come to value education in Dhoker Jhara Village and are happy. A man named *Sahil came and talked to school authorities to talk about admission all by himself.
