A Man of Change

Dureti is 65 years old and the man of change in his village. He is a strong supporter of GHNI’s Transformational Community Development (TCD) concept. When GHNI-Ethiopia entered this village, he was one of those who supported the idea, and is helping our TCD workers introduce TCD to the community.

Hope to Survive Drought

Didi Hara Village, Ethiopia

August through October is the main rainy season in the Borena area. The expected rain did not arrive during the expected season, and now a widespread drought plagues this area. Several cattle started dying as the entire water pond became dry, so villagers started to migrate with their cattle to seek water and pastures in another area.

When she had a discussion with our Transformational Community Development (TCD) worker, she said that as a child she was traveling for 30 minutes to an hour to get water for drinking and cooking. It was hard for her, working and carrying water for long distances every day.

Dida Hara Village is one project site for GHNI-Ethiopia. One of the community’s problems was a lack of clean drinking water. During our first discussion with the community leaders, they told us their women traveled more than 10km (about six miles) to get water that was not clear or suitable for drinking.
