Dreams of Becoming a Teacher

Hoogly Village, India

When I look at my community, I see poverty, lack of education, child labor, and addiction everywhere. I feel a burden in my heart to help them out of their situation. But at the same time, I realize how helpless I am to do anything, because my own condition is not good enough to help them. I thank GHNI for giving me this opportunity to reach out to them and help them in their need.

With the help of GHNI, I was able to recently start a computer center to offer them a better and affordable computer education. Currently, we have two classes running, for a total of 10 admitted students. All the students have their own story of tragedy.

I’d like to share the story of one of our students named Payel. She is 16 years old. Payel comes from a very poor family living in Hindmotor. Her father, Naba, is a daily laborer, and her mother, Gita, is a housewife. In addition to her parents, she has two younger brothers named Pavel and Sanjib. They are studying in the 5th and 6th grades. It is very difficult for their parents to afford their schooling. We have decided to partially help with their schooling costs. Currently, Payel is completing her 11th year of schooling. She is coming to our computer center to earn an Advanced Diploma in Computer Application (ADCA) course certificate. After Payel is able to complete her secondary education (12th year) and graduate, she wants to do any job to help her family financially. Her dream is to become a teacher in the school.
