Enrollment Grows, But Virus Suspends Ops

After the school closed in fall 2019, so many boys were eager to come to the English class at the Women’s Empowerment Centre II (WEC II) in the east of Bamyan. Since the winter, the number of students has tripled!

Students Take Initiative for Community Health

So far, the first Women’s Empowerment Centre (WEC I) has had a good impact on their community. About 50 teenage students are learning English, and 40 women have finished their literacy lessons.

This month, I taught lessons on worldview and development to the community people. They were very excited and learnt a lot. We discussed how beliefs, values, and behaviour play a great role in our lives. They understood that community development is not only led by individuals but culture itself, too.

The clinic is continuing providing its services. Many people are coming, as they don't get treated as well when they go to governmental hospitals and clinics.  They don't get good treatment for their conditions, so they prefer to come to the House of Ruth. They are happy and thankful.

I learned to kill bacteria

 

Jerry Namu*, shared with us that he had learned how to kill bacteria in one of our lessons.
 

He learned to wash his hands regularly before and after eating and after using the bathroom. He also learned not to eat anything that had flies on it and to wash any fruits or vegetables before eating them. He learned to be clean and live a clean life.
