Expanding to Full Grocery Shop

Kharibari Village, India

Last month, I met two members of Grassmore Tea Estate Co-operative Society and told them about Transformational Community Development (TCD). This tea garden is going through a transition phase and is often forced to close due to non payment of wages. They are interested and want to start TCD in the tea garden.

In Khairbari Village, we the committee have been trying to get solar lights for the village, and last month we met with the vice pradhan of the Sulkhapara Gram Panchayat and submitted the application. She has assured us it will be approved after November.

I have also been constantly encouraging the women in Khairbari to start a grocery shop instead of selling rice beer (local alcohol), but they don’t listen. In this village, there is not a single grocery shop and finally Lalita, who was earlier selling alcohol, has now started a small grocery out of her home. This is really encouraging, but we need some financial aid to help expand her shop so that village will have its first full-fledged grocery.

Thank you,
