Growing Gardens and Opportunities

December 19, 2023

A family learning about wellness from TCD.

This month, I went door-to-door in the community to teach about the amount of safe water needed in our bodies. The lessons I taught this month were about healthy food and vitamins found in fruits such as apples, mangos, and even carrots. When teaching about health, we went house to house in the community and taught four families about cleansing to avoid diseases and even about washing your feet well with soap and then wearing slippers.

Children were taught about a need for Education. I taught about enthusiasm for education and added stories of having fun to tie in with the big festival in Nepal. Knowing the importance of education, children have begun studying at the tutoring centers.

We also distributed seed money to four villagers. Community members stood on their own two feet and cultivated paddy and rice by themselves, taking other land as loans.

Liswini* told us her story. “There are a total of six members in my family. My husband is not here, and my mother is sick and old. I am alone to support the family, and my financial situation was also very poor when I joined the Transformational Community Development (TCD) class. I understood the importance of the group and learned many lessons about healthy food and healthy vegetables, so even though I did not have any land, I started growing vegetables to eat at home. I grew them in a small kitchen garden in our very limited land area. Now that the economy has changed a little and money is being saved, the TCD class has taught me different lessons that have led to big changes for the better. All this is the result of TCD in my family, and I want to thank the organization of GHNI very much.”

Thank you!
