From Hauling Water from a River to Turning on a Tap!

Polewali, Indonesia

Daryani* is a mother of three in the Polewali Transformational Community Development (TCD) village. Her husband lives and works far from Daryani and the children earn income to support the family. Just a few months ago, there was no water source available in Daryani’s village. Daryani hiked back and forth to the river an average of three times a day to bathe, do laundry and wash dishes. It was very time-consuming.

Thanks to the initiative of Daryani and her neighbours, accompanied by the TCD training team, all of her walking has been replaced by simply turning on the tap. Daryani has proven herself to be a leader who inspires others in her community. The water project initially pumped and piped water to a central tank in the village. Daryani was the first to install pipes from the tank into her house.

Great job, Daryani! Now that there is water available, the village committee has turned their attention toward the next life-changing project – bathrooms!  More news to come …

Thank you,
