Health and Wellness Knowledge Comes to Bamyan

Women’s Empowerment Centers, Afghanistan

The women from central Bamyan are regularly coming to our GHNI Women’s Empowerment Center (WEC) to learn Birth Life Saving Skills (BLISS) and literacy. In addition to this, our health lessons have a good impact on the local villagers, especially the women. Originally, these individuals came from villages within the past years, not knowing health lessons and midwifery. Our Transformational Community Development (TCD) worker, *Martin provides different kinds of health lessons.

Within the past few months, we taught them lessons about handwashing, safe drinking water, safe latrines, child sicknesses, Birth Life Saving Skills (BLISS), colds, diarrhea, and hypertension. In February, we offered teeth brushing and mouth washing lessons. We gave out 100 toothpastes and brushes to 100 women and students. We also taught them a practical lesson on how to use it. We showed some of the girls and boys who had wounds in their mouths how to use Listerine mouthwash to improve the health of their mouth.

The girls and boys are students in our TCD and English lessons and they are eagerly attending our center. Their English is becoming so much better than before.

Meanwhile, our staff and partners want to celebrate World Women’s Day in WEC. The students are preparing to read articles, do TCD role play, and sing songs. The WEC is having a huge impact on this community.

Thank you
