Health Lessons Transforming Lives

Ɖorgovska mahala, Serbia

Stanica is a 40-year-old mother of 3 grown children. She and her husband are diabetics and she takes medication to control her illness. She works hard all summer to meet her basic needs and is part of our Transformational Community Development (TCD) group.

Stanica did not know much about her illness because she could not get basic information about it from the local dispensary.  Diabetes mellitus is on the rise in the mahala.

In our lessons, she learnt a lot about health, prevention and how to help herself and her husband.  She realised that it was important to keep the disease under control to prevent further complications.  She began to take care of her diet, stopped drinking soda, and took her medication on time while engaging in physical activity, too. She also increases awareness with others about the risks of not detecting the disease on time and how they can improve their quality of life.

Stanica is grateful to TCD. Thanks to everything she has learnt, she will be able to live healthier without possible complications.

Thank you!
