From High School Dropout to Village Change Agent

Polewali, Indonesia

Diah*, like many others in the Polewali Village cluster, dropped out of high school to go and find work in another province. That was 9 years ago and as a 26-year-old mother, she recently decided to move back home. According to Diah, nothing ever changes in her village. They still need to walk to the river to go to the bathroom. Water is still scarce.

When the GHNI team came to Diah’s village last month, she was ecstatic. She had heard about the successful GHNI community-driven Water Projects in the adjacent village cluster. The GHNI team was equally ecstatic to find Diah and others like her who are ready to embrace Transformational Community Development (TCD) and get to work to lift themselves out of poverty.

In the coming months, a Water Project will be launched in Diah’s village cluster as the TCD team and a member from the first village’s Water Committee presents TCD lessons. If all goes well, another TCD Water Committee will be formed to address the unique issues of Diah’s area of Polewali. Stay tuned to hear more about what Diah and her neighbours accomplish in the near future.

Thank you,
