High School Student Empowers Others

Women’s Empowerment Centre--East, Afghanistan

As our Women’s Empowerment Center II (WEC II) moves forward, many new girls are coming to the center to learn the English language.  Some of these girls come from villages which are more than an hour away from the centre!

We are teaching them not only English, but we are also encouraging them to develop their character, build their capacity (grow as an individual) and to take ownership of their own lives. One of these girls is *Sherin.  She tries to attend the class every day and she is passionate about learning English.

When the public school closed due to winter’s cold weather about three months ago, Sherin started teaching local girls and boys school subjects by herself.  She does this despite the fact that she also attends English class at WEC II. Presently, she has about 25 students! Though still in high school herself, Sherin is learning how to run a small business, along with lessons about sustainability, as well as demonstrating the principle of giving back.

Thank you!
