Holding a Job, Earning Respect

Isiolo Empowerment Centre, Kenya

“My name is Gakii. I am from the Meru tribe in Isiolo county and belong to Gedebene Village. I am a single mother of one child.  I used to work as house help and got very little income to feed my family and son. I joined the GHNI empowerment programme and attended their tailoring course. After learning tailoring, I started stitching in my own home. I got a little money by stitching clothes for others, but I still had financial problems.

“I decided to find a job elsewhere and came to GHNI for help.  They advised me to join the bright ones of the school who are doing table banking and, at the same time, they offered me a job at the empowerment outlet shop. Now I am working in the shop and earning 3000 shillings per month. We are very happy and everyone gives me respect because I am a job-holder. I offer my gratitude to GHNI for providing me with a good opportunity. GHNI works for the welfare of our village people.”

Thank you!
