Hope for the Holidays: India School Expansion
Posted November 30, 2018
One of GHNI's high-need projects this holiday season is expansion of the school in Dhoker Jhara Village, India. Read on to learn more about this project and find out how you can help!
Dhoker Jhara is a village cluster in rural India working its way through Transformational Community Development (TCD). Because education is a key part of TCD, the villagers of Dhoker Jhara opened their English education school in 2015, originally serving just 30 students. Children at this school are studying both Hindi and English, which is a rare opportunity in rural India, and they attend for a very low cost.
The good news is the school has grown to now hold 150 students! But the school is very crowded with this number in attendance. There are many more students who wish to attend, but cannot because there is no space for them. It is common for five or more children to be squeezed onto a three-seat bench.
Because education is such a critical part of ending extreme poverty, children who are waiting to attend school do not have hope for a solution to their poverty.
You are invited to be part of the solution! Global Hope Network plans to expand the school by helping the villagers add on two additional classrooms, which will accommodate more students and allow existing students to work and learn in a more comfortable setting.
By attending school and receiving help with tuition and supply costs, children of families living in poverty will have hope for their futures and be able to follow their dreams of meaningful jobs and impact on society. This will transform the Dhoker Jhara cluster of villages to systemically improve their overall living situations.
