Improving Women’s Health

DG Village*, Nepal

I would like to highlight some of the important work that has been done in DG Village this quarter. We continued our work even during the COVID-19 pandemic. We carried out important things based on Women’s Health this quarter. It was not easy to work during this time as everyone was afraid of the coronavirus. It was really hard to visit villagers in a large group, so we met in smaller groups and have been able to do the activities.

I taught the community how to be safe and healthy during this pandemic situation. I regularly followed up and taught them about the prevention methods of sanitation and social distancing which was helpful, so there was a smaller number of infected people in the community. They got healed quickly because they were very careful and followed safety measures.

I also taught them about the importance of education and helped many students to continue their education. Children were very happy to learn new things and other important things. I am also working very hard on teaching them the importance of Health Education, personal hygiene and Community Health. Not only children but everyone in the village were taught.

I also taught people about why and how to be self-sustainable and explained what the benefits of self-sustainability are, etc. We held several meetings on this subject. I helped many people to develop their skills and improve them. I also encouraged them to Generate Income using their skills. Transformational Community Development (TCD) training has helped the villagers to develop their skills and apply them in their work. I also have shared the TCD concept with the leaders of other villages. Wherever we talk about TCD and its work and importance, the villagers are encouraged and excited. Villagers learnt about growing vegetable gardens, goat raising, personal health care and the use of safe water. They are very grateful for the help and teaching of GHNI.
