Hoogly Village, India

Today, I would like to share about *Arjun. He is a young man studying in grade seven. He lives in Hindmotor with his parents beside the railway track. His family is very poor. A few months ago, he joined our computer center. It’s good that we are able to give him a computer education with minimum fees. The whole family is very happy about it. He has started learning MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

One of GHNI's high-need projects this holiday season is expansion of the school in Dhoker Jhara Village, India. Read on to learn more about this project and find out how you can help!

In Jatapara Village, our Transformational Community Development (TCD) taught the community how to grow crops with low rainfall. Suggestions on how to grow fast-growing crops in hilly areas were made to farmers. Farmers like Rubi and Bablu have performed well and rice farming is going well here. We are teaching villagers to drink clean water and eat healthy food.

Life is going well in Hoogly Village. We are enjoying the Durga Puja festival, one of the biggest festivals of the Bengali people. Last month, we celebrated Teacher's Day in our computer center. We also taught more children how to wash their hands and its importance.

Last quarter was sowing season in Kharibari Village, so we did not have any weekly meetings. The villagers were really very busy with sowing and planting.  We continued our Saturday special classes for children.

I personally visited Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jalpaiguri and delivered Nepiar grass to the Goat Loan Program beneficiaries.

I was also invited to tribal social meetings in Malbazar to share about the work of GHNI. I shared about the Transformational Community Development (TCD) concepts of GHNI.

This quarter in Dhoker Jhara Village, we learned a few more techniques for farming. This season, we didn’t get enough rainfall in time. Because of less rainfall, crops didn’t get enough water and we didn’t get satisfying results for harvesting.

Today I would like to share with you regarding our computer center. Last month, a few of our children celebrated Teacher’s Day in our computer center. The name of our teacher is *Aarav. He is very willing to serve the children, so the children decided to surprise Aarav. I am very glad that the children are doing so well with their computer courses.

Jatapara Village, India

In the small nearby village of Jhopa, people are planting vegetables to add healthy nutrients into their meal. A woman named *Priscilla showed us a new way to grow a big and tasty pumpkin. Before, she used to sow and harvest in just one place; but now, she first sows the seed in a very wet area and, when the small plant comes up, she replants it with soil in a place where it should continue to grow. In this way, tasty and big pumpkins can be harvested.
