Kitchen Gardens Provide Food for Families

Valley of Ali*, Afghanistan

As in years past, our demonstration kitchen garden looks so good, especially at the time of harvest!  It provides families and our staff with a variety of crops such as cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc.  in the summer and early autumn.

We also invite villagers to show them that it is possible to plant vegetables in their fields and give them some fresh onions and lettuce as a gift, so that we can make friends with them.

Recently, two friends from Sar e Pul Province visited our poplar trees and kitchen garden. They asked for poplar cuttings for next year because, in their valley, there are no hybrid poplars. We hope to expand this project into this new region.

TCD Update

  • Food - Our kitchen gardens and tree project have yielded different kinds of vegetables and fruits.

  • Education - Local farmers who received hybrid poplar cuttings this year also received training on how to plant and grow poplars.

Thank you!
