Knitting a Community Together Helps!

Smyrna Women's Empowerment Centre, Turkey

Christmas stocking knitting has kept the Women's Empowerment Centre ladies very busy! Women knit the most stockings this season, and it is their best opportunity to earn income. Therefore, there is more joy in their homes.

The husband of one of our participants, Emily*, is the local government official in charge of the neighbourhood. Her father-in-law also lives with them. Both her father-in-law and her husband have helped braid the cords that have jingle bells on them. Our project has been embraced not only by the women but also by the men.

We had two guests from Bolivia volunteer with GHNI this month to help with the stocking knitting project. The locals loved them and enjoyed chatting with them. They are starting to become more and more open to new cultures. Intercultural dialogue is gradually opening doors through our project!

Thank you!
