Learners Who Became Teachers

Women’s Empowerment Centre, Afghanistan

Latifah and Rihanna have attended our English and Transformational Community Development (TCD) lessons since we started the first Women’s Empowerment Centre (WEC) in June 2018. In addition to their regular school, these girls and boys have learnt English extremely well in a very short amount of time, even better than expected.

Desiring to help other students learn English, these two girls have started a new course on their own.

In addition to teaching the course, they are continuing to come to our English class. About 25 students attend Latifah and Rihanna’s classes, and it is our hope that more people will follow their example.

The women have asked for a cooking class at least one or two days a week.  Since our planned hygiene and literacy lessons are almost complete, we hope we can provide some cooking materials and find a woman skilled in cooking who can instruct the other women.

TCD Update

Income Generation - The women who are involved in the WEC sewing programme make traditional Afghan clothes. They sell them to local markets to contribute to their family income.

Education - About 40 women who were learning literacy finished their lessons within a year. They will graduate in the days ahead, according to the Director of Education they will jump to third grade if they want to continue to study. The enrollment time to register new women will start soon.

Thank you!
