Learning to Stay Safe From COVID-19

*DG Village, Nepal

This quarter we have carried out different activities, including Transformational Community Development (TCD) classes. In most of the lessons, we focused on how the community can be safe from the novel coronavirus.  I have visited house-to-house and have encouraged them to be self-sustainable. I taught them about balanced diets and the importance of nutritious food. We discussed how to approach community problems and the ways to solve these issues as a community. Our COVID-19 lessons focused on the symptoms of the virus and how to stay safe from it by hand washing and focusing on personal health care. The people of the village are grateful to GHNI for our continued support in the community.

Success story - This time I would like to talk about the successful story of 42-year-old *Khyana. She is now self-sustainable because of TCD and is now a very active woman in her community. She has three children, and she attends TCD classes regularly while her husband works. In her family, I found many positive changes have happened since beginning TCD.  She told me that before she had many problems with little knowledge of how to overcome them. One problem was money because she had no savings. After TCD Income lessons, she has learnt to save money and her family is better off.

TCD Update

  • Water -  We held lessons about safe water for drinking, cooking and washing properly to keep them healthy. They are now careful about waterborne diseases and other diseases.
  • Food - We coached for increases in family production and consumption of food.
  • Income Generation - We invested small amounts for funds for micro businesses and goat farming, which could benefit them. Many people were afraid to come and talk together and learn about TCD because of the novel coronavirus.
  • Education - Held women’s literacy classes focusing on keeping clean. We also taught the children about how they can be safe from the coronavirus. This was so helpful to them.
  • Wellness - Women participation in the class has encouraged us to help villagers with further Wellness programmes.

Thank you!
