Literacy Becomes a Value

KW Village*, Nepal

This October, many Transformational Community Development (TCD) activities have been done in the community. Even though the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted things, we could still serve the community people by teaching the important lessons of TCD. There are many important things that we have done in the field. We could continue the TCD committee meetings, follow up education classes, kitchen gardening, and cleanliness lessons.

Certain people who are called a "backward tribe" have no interest and focus on education. They say that education is not important for human life. Now we are encouraging them to come to literacy classes. We are teaching them about the importance of education and they are trying to get more knowledge from the practical TCD lessons.  We are telling them to send their children to school. Before we started TCD in this village, no children were going to school. Now they want to send their children to school, but school is not open yet due to COVID-19. Children, as well as women in the village, are coming to the literacy class and learning. Now they are able to write.

The people of the community are learning to be self-sustainable. They have committed to standing on their own feet and being self-sustainable. They have started their micro-businesses of poultry farming and kitchen gardening. Now they are learning to save money for their future needs, by multiplying their work and expanding their income sources.

Thank you!
