Loans on a Roll

Kiwanjani Village, Kenya

Kiwanjani has many people who are under the influence of drugs. Some are drinking local alcohol, smoking bhang and even chewing charts. This has greatly deteriorated the lives of many families in the area. We have seen many children living a desperate life, because their parents are always drunk. However, as GHNI workers, alongside with other community leaders, we had opportunities to reach out to some young people in the area. Since then, we have seen differences in the lives of many.

John is the best example of a total transformation in his life. He stopped taking all the drugs that he has been involved in and lives a sober life. He also joined a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) group that is conducting table banking through our weekly programme. He borrowed a small loan and bought a motorbike. He has started a small hotel business, and is now living a joyful life with his family.

We, as GHNI workers, are yearning to see more transformed lives in Kiwanjani; not only physical aspects but moral as well, for this has given us courage to continue.

Thank you!
