Looking Beyond Differences

Children of Ezbit el Nakhl

Rabab is a nine-year-old girl who lives with her father and his four wives (an acceptable practice in this culture). Her mother is divorced but has remarried another man. When she grew a little older, she started to come to our organization and attended lessons, and she loved and enjoyed our care and attention. She has learned from the children’s lessons that all people are created equal and that we must love and accept everyone. Her way of thinking started to change and when she joined the games we organized. She began to play with all the children equally. Rabab even started to shake hands with us, which had not happened before. Change is possible.

Women of Ezbit el Nakhl

Samar is a beautiful young lady. She attended a lesson on fear, what causes it, and how to overcome it. She had a very severe fear of punishment. I began to discuss with her the subject of love, mercy, and forgiveness. When she started to think of how many times she has been forgiven without punishment, she said, “I can be free of condemnation and fear.” The next time we meet, I will teach her more lessons.
