Mother Knits Her Way to Independence

Ɖorgovska mahala, Serbia

In the past quarter, several families were infected with COVID-19 in the neighbourhood, so they were in isolation. We made short visits, just to review what they already learnt about Food, Water, Wellness, and Income Generation. We encouraged them to think about starting a microbusiness and become self-sustaining.

Jacka is a 36-year-old married woman with three daughters. She is part of the Transformational Community Development (TCD) group. She had health problems and underwent surgery. Thanks to TCD, she is learning to become responsible for her health and family.

Like most, she and her husband do seasonal jobs. She has learnt how important family and education are, and even though she is not educated, her children regularly go to school. She wants her children to be educated.  She has knowledge of knitting and crocheting and would like to start her own business to become self-sustaining so that she can educate her children and support her family.

She is grateful to TCD for what she has learnt and could apply in her life. She is a good example for her community.

Thank you!
