New Cropping Ideas

Dhoker Jhara Village, India

As we journey through the process of Transformational Community Development (TCD), we are giving the villagers ideas and techniques that will help them be more productive. We are seeing changes happening in the villagers’ lives with each step they take. Now we are coaching them with a new means to further prosper their hard work.

They are currently learning the process of cropping, so I introduced them to a different kind of rice grain. This special grain is new to the market and can produce five times more harvest than in a typical rice paddy. We are estimating that six kilograms (about 13 lbs.) of this grain can produce 500 kilograms (about 1,100 lbs.) of rice. This grain also can survive in the harshest climates. Villagers have mixed feelings about using it, however. Some are excited about it, but others are doubtful and want to stick with the typical rice grain.

We feel that our efforts are helping to gain the villagers’ trust, so that we can continue to bring them together and help them develop one vision for improving their village.
