New Crops & Preventing Disease

Dhoker Jhara Village, India

In Dhoker Jhara Village, vegetable farming was encouraged for the month of July. Vegetables like ladyfinger and gourd was planted. During monsoon season, villagers used to plant maize, but they were getting less production. This time, farmers created a vegetable plantation in a separate field to gain more profit. Some planted vegetables for their own family use and some to sell.

This month, we taught about cleanliness. While working in the field, villagers often drank runoff water from the field when they got thirsty. Nowadays, they drink water from the hand pump, so villagers are now free from diseases like jaundice and diarrhea, especially during this rainy season.
