New Plough, New Seed

Jatapara Village, India

Last month we sowed good quality maize seed, hoping to get better yields. Usually people keep maize seed left over from the previous year of cultivation; this is the traditional way. Most of the time these stocks ended up destroyed due to a lack of care. This time we bought and sowed seeds from the seed storehouse provided by the government to see what the difference will be from the previous harvest.

We also introduced a new plough made of iron to farmers two years before. Since that year only three people have adopted it, but this year many more are using them as they see they provide better groundbreaking and are longer-lasting than traditional wooden ploughs. Farmers like Mangal, Noha, Phillip, Rasik, and Subhas are excited to have this new tool for their farm.

Thank you,
