Overcoming Sickness and Sadness

Shambani Village, Kenya

Pauline is a 52-year-old woman living in Shambani Village. She is a mother of six, all girls. Pauline’s husband wanted her to give him a boy, but since that didn’t happen, he is going to marry another young lady.

In the midst of all this, Pauline did things that caused more harm than good to her health. She went for traditional medicine, which included having small cuts made to her body and used herbal concoctions which put her in poor health. Pauline grew increasingly weak in this battle, leaving her pale and eventually bedridden.

GHNI joined the Wellness Committee as it did its routine check-up in the village, a check-up done twice a month. We came across Pauline in her bed and a committee member explained all that was needed for Pauline to regain her health. We had to throw away the unnecessary herbs, put her on a blood booster, and give her antibiotics to treat the cuts which had become septic.

Now Pauline is back on her feet and totally healed. Now she can withstand her husband leaving.
