Parents and Teachers Develop Team-Mindset

Spitak, Armenia

The local school faced communication problems: the teachers and parents did not communicate well. Meetings often ended in conflict and criticism. The headmaster asked us to run a two-day training for teachers and parents, together.

As part of Transformational Community Development (TCD), we organised training with the purpose of creating a model for teachers and parents to work together. The main goals were the education and well-being of the students and the positive future impact on the village. We put the chairs in a circle to create an equal environment. The main speakers did not stand during the teaching but sat as the rest, which created a better environment for all to discuss and share ideas.

We introduced several topics, and both sides discussed them. Both groups realised the importance of teamwork and cooperation. Specific goals were determined, along with strategies to achieve them. Teachers were surprised that the parents were active in discussions.

We like to call it “breaking the ice” and hope to see future good fruit. The training ended with everyone smiling, and both sides felt heard and understood.

Thank you!
