Perseverance Finally Leads to Success

Mawa, Indonesia

Ajij* has been a key figure in the Transformational Community Development (TCD) Water Committee since the beginning of the ambitious water project that commenced in 2019 in Mawa Village. Ajij worked with the GHNI training team and his fellow community members until, against all odds, they finally succeeded at bringing fresh water into Mawa Village after decades of difficulty.

In an interview with the GHNI team, Ajij explained that since the beginning of this project, suspicion was rampant in the village due to the fact that they had been promised water many times before by officials and organisations. Now he expresses gratefulness and pride that they actually did it!

So many villagers get accustomed to failure to the point that they become powerless. Our TCD training team came to Mawa with the goal of seeing this mindset changed.  Ajij, standing in front of the new water source in his village, exuded a new hope and a new perspective.  Our hope is that this taste of success becomes a catalyst for many future victories in Mawa – reversing the cycle of poverty as the community is further empowered to lift themselves up.

Thank you,

GHNI Partner TCD Worker
