Planning New Poplar Fields

*Valley of Ali, Afghanistan

Seven years ago, GHNI contracted a plot of land in the Valley of Ali so many farmers could benefit from our poplar cuttings project. Every year, we distributed our poplars and served as a model for local people. They could see and learn how to grow the fast-growing poplar trees in their fields. This village is suitable for growing poplars, and previously the local people didn't know how to grow them.

Through this project, lots of people learned and were inspired. Now we can see poplar fields everywhere in the district. This shows the huge success of this project in this area. Now, we just have four months left to the end of our contract with our landlord. We plan to finish this project and rent a new plot in other areas. Until next spring, we have time to think about which kind of agricultural project we will start.

We received a letter from the local agricultural management in Yakawlang District that included a few ideas of agricultural options they have requested from us. We are looking forward to starting a new project close to the district center to fulfil their request. This will enable more local people with access and ability to profit from the project.

Thank you,
The GHNI-Afghanistan Team
