Planting the Seed

Jatapara Village, India

During the month of November we did many activities. We encouraged villagers to start vegetable farming, and they were excited about the idea.

At Jatapara Village, the lives of the villagers have been affected through Transformational Community Development (TCD). The women are more interested than the men; as the men have to go to work the whole day, they were not able to attend the TCD meetings. They are still in doubt about the potential success of TCD programmes.

The women are hesitant to step ahead of their husbands, but they also don’t want to stay quiet. They have sown cabbage seeds and plan to farm and cultivate by themselves. This time of year, farmers are threshing the rice and so, to ease this burden, we tied a rope to a motor and used it to speed up the work. We have started a small vegetables farm with some local boys to encourage villagers of nearby Sri Amra Village. One of the officers from the block came and visited our village. They met with some of the women to encourage them to have a go at vegetables farming.

Thank you,
